The culture of deadlines

The culture of deadlines

The concept of deadline is heard in the vocabulary of all plazas and often in workplaces where we can work in absentia or face-to-face.What is the attitude towards deadline, which is accepted by everyone with a different understanding, in modern times and under what conditions is it observed?

Since our childhood, we have seen several heroes in popular serials and movies doing different things during the day. They spend a large part of the day doing something, even spending a large part of their time in cafes, restaurants or with the problems they face. But there is one question that everyone was interested in. Where do they get their profits from?

The concept of absentee and remote work has been around for many years. If at first it was difficult for a number of employees to work in a place outside the office, this difficulty has been resolved over the years and various solutions have appeared. Thanks to the opportunities created by the modern and digitized world, most employees can now carry out their work from different locations.

But what requirements for the employee change or remain the same?

Although working outside the office eliminates the need to travel a certain distance every day, carry food with you, and spend money on transportation, some rules remain valid for all employees. Responsibility of employees, adaptation to the team, respect and dignity are required from all employees.

One of the requirements is to deliver deadlines on time, to be able to set the best time for yourself and the client. The concept of deadlines has become a very global problem within most companies, and in some companies it has become a balancing act to deliver work on time.Problems we may experience when delivering and receiving deadlines:

- The customer sets the time only for himself. In such a case, no member of the team is consulted and the client wants to get the work at the appointed time.Once the time has been set, it is very rare to take a step back. Mostly, the client wants to receive the work a day later than the appointed time or on the same day. The Customer’s psychology is always open to the concept of asking for work anytime, anywhere, if there is a fee. However, in modern times, companies working under modern conditions have helped customers to be more lenient and fair towards the companies they receive their services at a certain level.

- Urgent deadlines. If we encounter urgent tasks during work, there can be three reasons for this. The first reason is that a short period of time is given for an event to occur, regardless of our control. During that time, relevant work related to the incident should be done. The second reason is that cases are urgent because there are internal management or system failures from the customer side and it does not take into account when the team can deliver. The third reason is that due to repeated corrections on the sent jobs, the delivery time of the job has passed and the job should reach the designated address as soon as possible.

- The fact that the deadline is different for everyone. Just as we have experienced a number of problems from the customer side, it is impossible to avoid problems within the team. If a job is coming up, the best deadline for that job is different for everyone. For example, if the designer sets the deadline for 4 days, the copywriter cannot deliver this work in 4 days.Since most of the work happens in a chain, first of all, the employee who will implement the initial stage of the work should set the deadline, and then the employees who will implement the next steps should set the deadline.

In the world where the deadline culture has been formed for years, everyone tries to set the most convenient deadline for himself/herself and tries to hand over the work without delaying it for a long time. Let's set deadlines correctly, deliver on time, hand over on time!
